AMD Tax and Accounting, Inc. was founded by Mark J. Dutter. Mark has been an Accountant in one way or another for more than 20 years. After graduating from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1999, Mark began his career as a Corporate Controller for a mid-sized airplane parts brokerage firm in Milwaukee, WI. After helping the company merge with a multi-billion dollar foreign company, Mark became the Chief Financial Officer of the newly formed company MBT, LLC. After several years of service, Mark went out on his own, consulting for small to mid-sized companies across the country under his creative firm named On Call CFO, LLC.
In 2016 Mark decided to go back to school and in 2019 graduated from The John Marshall Law School with a Juris Doctor Degree, as well as a Master of Laws in Tax Law. Mark also obtained his Masters of Business Administration in Human Resources Management from Robert Morris University while attending Law School. In 2018, Mark renamed his consulting company to AMD Tax Prep., Inc. now known as AMD Tax & Accounting, Inc.
Mark has consulted for several businesses over the years. He has worked in manufacturing, construction, retail, medical, service businesses, residential and commercial real estate rentals, and with other accounting firms. The one thing Mark noticed with most accounting firms is their lack of proactive customer service to the majority of their clients. Most accountants simply take the information you provide them, turn that into financial statements and tax returns, and then hand them back. If you have a question or an idea, they are always happy to help or answer the question as best they can.
What most of them do not do, especially the larger firms with thousands of clients, is look at the information you provide and ask YOU questions. By the time January rolls around, it’s usually too late to make any adjustments to your books to lower your tax burden from the previous year. For example, if a client were to have a wind-fall year with record profits of $300,000, It would likely be too late to see what could be done to minimize that profit for tax purposes for the prior year. If the accountant had a better relationship with the client and was proactive in finding out this information BEFORE the end of the year, the accountant could have looked into retirement investments, depreciation allocations, capital expenditures, etc. to help minimize the client’s tax burden.
